Merchan Removes Juror Who Said "Lock Him Up" About Trump

Ipsos Poll Shows Americans Skeptical of Trump's Innocence Claims

Judge Removes Juror Who Used Words Closely Associated with Trump

Judge Lucy Koh in the Northern District of California removed a potential juror who uttered the words "lock him up" when contemplating whether former President Donald Trump is guilty or innocent in the criminal proceedings against him.

The phrase "lock him up" is closely associated with Trump and his supporters, who chanted it at rallies during the 2016 presidential campaign. The phrase has also been used by some Republicans to call for the imprisonment of Trump's political opponents.

In a new poll by Ipsos, 64% of Americans said they believe Trump is guilty of at least one crime related to the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Only 29% of Americans believe Trump is innocent.

The poll also found that 58% of Americans believe Trump should be held criminally liable for his actions leading up to and on January 6th. Only 33% of Americans believe that Trump should not be held criminally liable.

The poll was conducted online from January 6-9, 2023, among a nationally representative sample of 1,004 adults aged 18 and older. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

Judge Koh's decision to remove the potential juror is a sign that she is taking seriously the need to ensure that the trial is fair and impartial. The juror's use of the phrase "lock him up" suggests that he or she may have a bias against Trump, which could affect their ability to make a fair and impartial decision.
